Website Goal:
This site houses my Capstone Project for IREX's Teachers for Global Classrooms Program, as well as my personal blog about education, lesson plans, educational research, discussion forums, and more. My goal is to create a network of educators passionate about 21st Century education and working together to elicit change across the educational system. What this looks like, I do not yet know, but I look forward to figuring it out together! Use the links above to navigate, and feel free to give advice for improvements.
About the author:
Sue WilsonThis is my 11th year teaching and my 3rd at Bioscience High School in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona. Our school is progressive and I am passionate about the fully integrated STEM model of problem-based learning we are implementing. I have learned more professionally in the last 2.5 years than the previous 10 (this is a testament to the work at Bioscience and not at all a knock on my previous experiences), and I am excited for this opportunity to share and discuss with others. I often hear that if your work changes one life for the better it is worth it, I believe this sells our work short. My life goal is to better society and the environment by positively impacting the lives of every one of my students and improving the educational system significantly. This cannot be done in isolation, let's join together to share best practices and research, discuss goals and pedagogy, and examine and debate educational models in order to advance 21st Century education; our students deserve it!
Before Bioscience, I taught 6 years of Math and Physics at Moon Valley High School, my HS alma mater, and 2 years of cross-categorical self-contained 7th Grade at Desert Foothills Junior High, my Junior High alma mater. I earned a B.S. in Biochemistry/Biophysics from Oregon State University in 2002 and a M.Ed. in Secondary Education and Special Education from Northern Arizona University in 2005. I have fun playing and coaching sports, reading, and traveling; however, these days I'd rather chase 3 year old Kamdan and 2 year old Rowan around and relax with my husband Jon.
